Chemical use by laboratories, medicine, electronics, energy, petroleum engineering, facilities and plants, water and wastewater analysis, utilities and research & development companies takes place in the background and in back rooms. Much of what is taken for granted in the drugs necessary to sustain modern life and in the materials used in most of our products and services is dependent on the ability of companies to accurately measure the amounts of chemicals which go into their production. Advances in techniques to measure chemicals have been important and even fundamental for the Chemicals Industry. Often used and controlled in very small amounts and combinations, chemicals have traditionally been very difficult to measure with repeatable precision. Moving and rotating flow measurement parts wear and require a certain measure of ‘bypass’ flow to pass undetected, especially in low ranges under 10 ccm. Paddle Wheel and Turbine flow sensors suffer this effect. Non-invasive measurement sensors such as Magnetic and Coriolis types either need a conductive media or vibration and the resulting delicate construction introduces ‘noise’ to the sensors thus curtailing measurement precision at very low flow rates. Inferred flow devices that pump chemicals with the practical benefit of no contact with the flowing media, notably Peristaltic Pumps, use compressible tubing material that is squeezed and de-compressed repeatedly. The tubing material is known to degrade due to loss of elasticity and this degradation significantly affects flow rate accuracy. As much as 50 % loss of accuracy within a year has been reported.

The BI-6000 Liquid and Chemical Flow Meter uses chemically protected pressure sensors (Corroperm ™), differentially used across a laminar flow element (LFE), with no moving parts for volumetric chemical flow information. If 1% full scale accuracy under 2 ccm is required, the BI-6000 is ready to use. Flow rates of the BI-6000 are standard from 2ccm to 5 LPM covering many chemical flow meter applications. If a very low pressure drop because of low head pressure of a Peristaltic pumping device (less than 5psi) is required, the BI-6000 chemical flow meter accommodates.
